Aleem Dar becomes cricket’s most experienced umpire


CAPE TOWN: Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar overtook South Africa’s Rudy Koertzen to become the cricket’s most experienced umpire, ARY News reported.

The record of 331 international games set by South Africa’s Rudy Koertzen was overtaken by Dar, who is umpiring his 332nd international game between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Newlands, Cape Town.

According to statistics, Dar has umpired in 109 test matches, 182 one-day internationals and 41 Twenty20 internationals.

Dar said that it was a great honour for him and he would like to thank Almighty Allah along with his friends and family for their support.

It should be noted that Dar was named in Elite Panel of International Cricket Council (ICC) Umpires in 2002 and also won the ICC’s Umpire of the Year award thrice in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Dar played as a right-handed batsman and an off-spinner in first-class cricket.

He umpired in his first test match in 2003 when Bangladesh hosted England at Dhaka whereas he called his first one-day international in 2000 between hosts Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Gujranwala.
