LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Tribunal (ACT) held separate hearings for the suspended Pakistani players, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Friday.
The players were suspended on suspicion of involvement in spot-fixing during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017.
Chairman ACT Justice (retd) Asghar Haider, ACT members, Lt. Gen. (retd) Tauqir Zia and Wasim Bari, advocates for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Taffazul Rizvi and Haider Ali Khan, General Manager Legal Affairs PCB Salman Naseer and Head of PCB’s Vigilance and Security Department Col (retd) Mohammad Azam Khan were also present on the occasion.
PCB’s counsel submitted its opening brief to the ACT in both the cases with all the supporting evidences.
The evidences include, amongst other materials, witness statements, recorded interviews, recovered material, match footage, and copies of certain WhatsApp voice messages.

The Anti-Corruption Tribunal directed that the parties would not make any comments regarding the contents of the evidence presented to this tribunal, or on the merits of the present proceedings.
A copy of the opening brief with all the materials were also provided to Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan for their respective cases.
Counsels of both the players are liable to respond by filing an answering brief before the tribunal on 5th May 2017.
Earlier, Khalid Latif filed a Writ Petition before the Lahore High Court, challenging the constitution of the tribunal. However, the petition of Latif was dismissed by the court after hearing arguments of the PCB.
The petition filed by Khalid Latif argued that constituting an ‘anti-corruption unit’ was against the constitution of PCB as the board has no jurisdiction to impose a ban or issue notices, hence the court should declare all proceedings, notices and ban order against him nullified.
