KARACHI: Anwar Majeed, the head of the Omni group who is currently in a fake bank accounts case, scuffled with an official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at the Karachi airport.

Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani, who were arrested outside the premises of the Supreme Court yesterday, were being shifted to Karachi on Thursday when the incident occurred at the airport.

As an FIA official attempted to handcuff his son, Abdul Ghani, before coming out of the arrival lounge of the airport, the elder Majeed pushed the handcuffs with his walking stick and strongly resisted,

Both have been shifted to the Commercial Banking Circle of the FIA and will be presented in court tomorrow. The investigative officer in the case claims to sufficient evidence against Majeed and his son.

Anwar Majeed and his son were arrested after appearing before the Supreme Court in a case being heard by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar pertaining to money laundering worth billions of rupees through fake bank accounts.

Three other sons of Majeed named Nimr, Kamal, and Zulqernain were placed on the Exit Control List (ECL), while a petition by their counsel seeking pre-arrest bail was dismissed.

The CJP remarked that Majeed and his family can be taken into custody at the discretion of the FIA. Anwar Majeed and his sons are not required to be present in court for future hearings.

Justice Nisar also rejected Majeed’s plea to unfreeze his bank accounts. He directed the Majeed family to appear before the FIA in the investigations of fake bank accounts case. The hearing has been adjourned till August 28.
