Army chief confirms death sentence of 30 hardcore terrorists

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has confirmed death sentence of another 30 hardcore terrorists involved in heinous crimes.

According to ISPR statement, the terrorists were awarded death sentence by the military courts.

“The process expedited during Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad. These terrorists were involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism including attack on APS Peshawar, kidnapping and slaughtering soldiers of Frontier Constabulary, attack on Saidu Sharif airport, killing of innocent civilians, attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan and Law Enforcement Agencies,” added the ISPR statement.

Military courts were revived in Pakistan after the president signed a summary of extension in its tenure.

The military courts earlier were created by a constitutional amendment after the deadliest terrorist attack in December 2014. The attack on Army Public School in Peshawar, in which gunmen killed more than 150 people—mostly children.

The Army intensified an operation against militants in the tribal areas and the government launched a National Action Plan, including the creation of the courts, against terrorism. The courts were seen as an “exceptional” short-term measure put in place to allow the government time to reform the criminal justice system.
