FIA summons Asad Umar on April 14

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore has summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Asad Umar on April 14 in connection with the probe into the prohibited funding case, ARY News reported on Friday.

According to the call-up notice, Asad Umar has been directed to appear before FIA investigators on April 14 in Lahore.

The FIA stated that Umar was managing the PTI’s election campaign and he will be quizzed regarding the sources of the funds.

In December 2022, a special court had extended the interim bail of two accused, involved in a case of prohibited funding against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

As per details, the Banking Court heard the interim bail petition of PTI leaders Tariq Shafi and Mubashir Ahmad in the prohibited funding case and summoned the lawyers to present their arguments.

It is pertinent to note here that the Investigation Agency had registered a case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and 10 others over accusations of receiving foreign funding. The case had been registered by the FIA Corporate Banking Circle.

The case’s First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused including the former premier violated Foreign Exchange Act and all of the nominated persons were beneficiaries of the private bank account.
