Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh overpower Hong Kong by 7 wickets

ABU DHABI: In yet another one-sided encounter of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh defeated Hong Kong by seven wickets at the Sheik Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Chasing a modest target of 144 runs, the Litton Das-led side comfortably reached the total in 17.4 overs, losing just three wickets.

Bangladesh lost the first wicket early when  opener Parvez Hossain Emon fell for 19 , while Tanzeed Hossain managed only 14 runs, leaving them 47-2 inside the powerplay.

However, captain Liton Das anchored the chase with a stellar 59 runs, guiding his team toward victory. Tohid Hardoi remained unbeaten on 35, ensuring a smooth finish.

For Hong Kong, Ayush Shukla and Atiq Iqbal picked up a wicket each but struggled to stem the flow.

Earlier, being asked to bat first, Hong Kong posted 143 for 7 in their allotted overs. Nazakat Khan top-scored with a resilient 42, supported by opener Zeeshan Ali’s 30. Babar Hayat contributed 14, while captain Yasim Mortaza was run out for 28.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack was led by Tanzeem Hussain and Rashad Hussain, both claiming two wickets to restrict the opposition.

Before the recent match, both teams have only met once in the T20I format which was way back in the 2014 T20 World Cup. Interestingly, Hong Kong won that game after skittling Bangladesh for 108 runs and winning the encounter by 2 wickets.
