Asif Zardari appears before NAB in Opal 225, suspicious transactions inquiries

ISLAMABAD: Former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday appeared before NAB after being summoned in two of the ongoing inquiries, including Opal and suspicious transaction of Rs8billlion.

The former president will  record his statement before the Combined Investigation Team (CIT) of the accountability watchdog.

The NAB has accused the Zardari Group of taking a bribe of Rs1 billion in JV (Joint Venture) of Opal 225 project.

The CIT of the NAB Rawalpindi, headed by investigation officer Ahmad Saeed Wazir will record his statement in the inquiries.

It is further alleged that the funds of the project were used to pay the expenses of Naudero House.

Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur were granted an extension in bail by Islamabad High Court in different graft cases being faced by them.

NAB had decided to file a supplementary reference against the co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party in money laundering case.

According to sources, the statements of four approvers will be the part of supplementary reference against Zardari.

Aslam Masood, the chief financial officer of the Omni Group of Companies who was arrested in October last year in London by the Interpol and brought to Pakistan, has been one of the four approvers in the case.
