ATC grants five-day physical remand of Lahore car crash accused

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court granted five days’ physical remand of teenage accused Afnan Shafqat, involved in road crash that claimed six lives in DHA Lahore, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Police told the court that the accused crushed six people to death adding that accused Afnan was not issued driving licence.

The investigation officer pleaded to the court physical remand of the accused for investigation.

The incident resulted in the loss of six members of a family including Rukhsana Bibi, her son Hasnain, daughter-in-law Ayesha, son-in-law Sajjad, four-month-old grandson Huzaifa, and granddaughter Anaya.

Earlier, a bail petition was filed in the sessions court and the court summoned the case record from police.

The lawyer pleading for releasing the accused on bail, said that the accused has been underage.

The complainant’s lawyer said that the FIR of the case included clauses of the anti-terrorism law. “The accused should be sent to the anti-terrorism court for bail in the case,” counsel said.

The plaintiff’s lawyer pleaded to court to dismiss bail plea of the accused.

The accused was later produced in the anti-terrorism court.

The suspect was alone in the car when people rescued him and handed him over to the police. He was sent on judicial remand by judicial magistrate at Cantonment Courts on Wednesday.
