ATC indicts MQM hitman in Pervez Mehmood murder case

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday indicted a man alleged to be target killer of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in murder case of Dr Pervez Mehmood, a former Town Nazim of Liaquatabad  affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), ARY News reported.

Jail officials produced the accused Masood Ali alias Kala before the court. The culprit has refused to accept the allegation on him. Upon which, the court has summoned witnesses for further proceeding in the case.

The ATC also directed to initiate process to declare the absconders in the case wanted criminals. The fugitives include former MQM  joint sector in-charge Rehan, Imran Ejaz Niazi, Tahir Qadiani, Zubair alias Pappa, Asif Alto, Faizan Ilyas, Sameer Nai, Shakeel Mota and Abdul Rehman.

Police told that Masood alias Kala was a member of the MQM target killer team. During interrogation, he had confessed to killing Pervez Mehmood.

The accused said he murdered the JI’s former town nazim of Liaquatabad on directive of the then in-charge Tanzeemi Committee Hammad Siddiqui.

He said he committed target killing of several people in Nazimabad and Rizvia Society upon receiving orders from MQM leadership.

The hearing has been adjourned till February 7.
