ATC sends May 12 suspect on 90 days remand

Rangers on Monday presented the accused before the ATC under tight security. On this occasion, gates were closed for other affectees of terrorism, while the accused was presented before the court with his face covered with a cloth.

Member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) legal aid committee, Muhammad Jeevani tried to appear before the court, yet he was also barred from doing so.

Rangers sources told that the accused is a grade-18 officer in the State Bank of Pakistan, who was arrested by the Rangers task force.

It was further said that the joint investigation of Rafique will also be held.

Karachi witnessed massive violence on May 12, 2007 upon the arrival of then chief justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the metropolis, during which several people including a majority of political activists were killed in armed clashes.

MQM has also time and again claimed to have its 14 workers killed in the May 12 incident.
