Australia beats England to reclaim Ashes

TOP NEWS

PERTH: Australia won the third test of the Ashes series against England by 150 runs and reclaimed the Ashes urn after  six years here at the WACA on Tuesday, ARY News reports.

The English side started the proceedings on the score of 251-5 on the fifth and final day. England started the day in a steady manner. Only Ben Stokes, the English batsman, provided some resistance to the Aussie pace attack as he contributed 120 runs.

The first session of the day gave hope to the English side and the Barmy Army that their team could snatch a draw but the dismissal of Ben Stokes, from the bowling of Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, shattered their dreams of rescuing the match.

Stokes’ dismissal closed all the doors for England for coming back in the game. The tail-enders did not stick long at the crease and were back in the pavilion for 353.

Mitchell Johnson took four wickets in the innings whereas Nathan Lyon took three wickets.

Steve Smith was announced as the Man of the Match for his 111 run knock in the first innings which set the tone for the side.

The home side reclaimed the urn after six years. They had whitewashed the English side 5-0 in the 2007 series.

The fourth test will be played at Melbourne on 26th December.
