Australia leads by 224 runs with 10 wickets remaining

BRISBANE: Australia outshined England on the second day of the first Ashes test and were at 65-0 on stumps of second day, having lead of 224 runs, ARY News reported on Friday.



Australia started the first inning on 237-8, Brad Haddin remained 6 runs short of his century and fell attempting a second run into the off side.



English pacer, Straut Broad walked off with 6 for 81 to some full-throated boos.



In reply, England were all out at 136 runs, the afternoon session witnessed a drastic collapse of English batting lineup.



Six England wickets fell after lunch for nine runs in a startling 58-ball phase as Australia, who were seemingly under pressure after lodging a none-too-impressive 295 on first innings, inspired a feverish response from a Brisbane crowd suddenly convinced that they can claim victory in the opening Test.



Mitchell Johnson, who played a wonderful knock of 64 runs with the bat, displayed impressive performance with the ball, taking 4 wickets in the innings.



Ryan Harris took three crucial wickets in his 15 overs conceding 28 runs.



Australia started the second inning with David Warner with his aggressive approach scored 45 runs in just 55 balls while Chris Rogers played a watchful knock of 15 runs facing 77 balls.



Australia will resume the inning at 65-0 with the lead of 224 runs on the board and 10 wickets remaining.
