Aviation advisor directs to expedite expansion work at Peshawar airport

PESHAWAR: Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation, Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work on renovation and expansion of the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar.  

The advisor during a visit to the airport said that no delay in completion of the airport expansion project would be tolerated, and ensure use of standard quality construction material in the project.

Sardar Mehtab being accompanied by Director General Civil Aviation Authority Air Marshal (Retd) Asim Suleman and other officials strictly directed to complete the project within the stipulated period.

He said the Peshawar airport is an important airport of the country due to its geographical location, and being the provincial metropolis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the city’s airport also serves as centre of air travel for millions of passengers of FATA.

He went on to say that, in the context of CPEC mega project, the role of Peshawar and its airport is of great importance and the government wants to make it a state of the art international airport.

The advisor further said it is imperative to provide proper facilities to the passengers at Peshawar airport, and the government has launched has the renovation and expansion which will be completed in November 2017.

He informed that under the project a multi-story car parking will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.5 billion, which will be completed within nine months and have the capacity for 900 cars.

The new domestic lounge of fully equipped airport will become operational in September 2017 with a capacity of 350 passengers, whereas the new international lounge will have the capacity of 1000 passengers.

Earlier, the advisor visited different sections of airport and inspected the pace and quality of construction work. He also inspected facilities provided to passengers at international and domestic lounges.

He also expressed displeasure over cleanliness at the airport and directed the concerned quarters to ensure complete cleanliness amid continuation of construction work.

He said that passengers are facing some problems due to ongoing expansion work, but soon with completion of the expansion and renovation project, Bacha Khan Airport will become a state of the art international airport of the country.
