Azhar Mahmood appointed Pakistan’s bowling coach

A report stated that Mahmood was confirmed that he was approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the position. He will replace Mushtaq Ahmad, who informed the governing body that he would no longer be able to work due to personal commitments.

The team’s head coach Waqar Younis had recommended Azhar Mahmood’s name for the position.

The decision of appointing Mahmood has been made ahead of Pakistan’s Asia Cup and 2016 World Twenty20 campaign which would be held in Bangladesh and India.

The all-rounder is currently playing for Islamabad United in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Sources have also reported that PCB is also in talks with West Indies cricketing great Sir Vivian Richards to appoint him as a mentor for the upcoming two cricketing tournaments.

Mahmood has represented Pakistan in 21 test matches and 143 tournaments. He has scored 900 runs in tests and 1521 runs in one day respectively. He has also scored three test centuries as well.

The bowling coach also has 123 ODI and 39 test wickets to his name.
