KARACHI: Police has registered a case against more than 40 persons for rioting and scuffles in Azizabad yesterday (Wednesday).
A case over rioting and scuffles between the supporters of the two factions of MQM has been registered over creating a law and order situation under the maintenance of public order and other relevant laws against more than 40 persons including seven arrested workers of MQM-London.
Police had arrested seven Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London workers after a clash between the workers of MQM London and Pakistan in Azizabad’s Jinnah ground.
The clash occurred as MQM-Pakistan leader and Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar announced to arrive at Yadgar-e-Shuhada (martyrs’ monument) in the Jinnah Ground.
Sources say, MQM Pakistan leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan reached the monument before the rally accompanying Waseem Akhtar but MQM-London workers at the ground started chanting slogans in favour of the party chief Altaf Hussain.
MQM-Pakistan workers too chanted slogans in response but soon the slogan war turned into a scuffle, forcing law enforcers to step in. Police baton charged the workers and arrested seven of them, all belonging to the party’s London faction.
