LAHORE: The body of late Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has been brought back to Pakistan from London and shifted to Jati Umra where her funeral prayers are scheduled to be held at 5:00 pm today.

The flight carrying Kulsoom Nawaz’s mortal remains landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore  in wee hours on Friday. It was later shifted to the Sharif Medical Complex, Jati Umra where her funeral will be held today.

Shehbaz Sharif, Asma Nawaz, and ten other members of the Sharif family accompanied the body on the flight (PK 758) to Lahore. Sons of Hussain Nawaz have also come along with the body.

Famed Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel will lead the former first lady’s funeral prayers as special security measures will be in place to ensure that her rituals pass off without any untoward incident.

Yesterday, Kulsoom Nawaz’s funeral prayers were offered in London’s Regent Park Islamic Center.

A number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and members of Pakistani diaspora attended the funeral in the British capital.

Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif along with Ishaq Dar and Chauhdry Nisar were also in attendance.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retired) Safdar, who were serving sentences in Adiala jail, were released on a five day parole hours after the demise of the former first lady.

Kulsoom Nawaz breathed her last at a hospital on September 11 in London after a prolonged illness. The political career of the former first lady remains far from any controversy, unlike embroilment of her family members in different cases.
