Excise dept launches biometric verification for vehicles’ transfer

ISLAMABAD: In a revolutionary step to curtail irregularities and to bring transparency in vehicles’ transfer process, the Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad on Tuesday introduced an online biometric verification system, ARY News reported.            

Inaugurating the biometric verification system, Islamabad Chief Commissioner Amir Ali Ahmed said that the new system would curtail irregularities in vehicles transfer system.

Use of modern technology could not only help improve the delivery of services but also make it easier, said the chief commissioner said and added that the district administration was also trying to resolve the parking issue of the excise office.

On the occasion, Excise Director Bilal Azam Khan said that the biometric system would bring transparency and also generate greater revenues for the department. He said that the system would stop the role of agents in the vehicles’ transfer process.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, on December 18, had inaugurated smart card for registration of vehicles across the province.

In a tweet on his social media account, Usman Buzdar wrote, “Today I launched smart card for the registration of vehicles. The smart card would not only abolish the traditional vehicle registration books, inhibit fabrication but streamline the whole process of registration.”
