Bisma named Pakistan Women Cricket team’s new captain

LAHORE: Bisma Maroof has been named new ODI captain of Pakistan Woman Cricket team to replace Sana Mir, a cricket board statement said on Saturday. 

The decision has been taken after the team’s disappointing performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Bismah Maroof has been given the captaincy of the women cricket team for One Day format in addition to her current position as T20 captain.

“Sana Mir has been replaced as Captain of Pakistan women team in 50 over format but she will be eligible for selection as a player in both formats of the game,” read the statement.

Following the women cricket team’s dismal performance in the recently concluded ICC World Cup, the Board reviewed relevant reports of Coach, Captain, Chief Selector and Manager and interviewed the Manager, Captain and GM Women Cricket.

Subsequently, a number of decisions were taken to improve the performance of the women cricket team.

The PCB also removed general manager women cricket and said a new team manager will be appointed in due course, in the meantime  Ayesha Ashhar had been given the interim charge of women wing.

It said it would appoint the new manager through an advertisement in newspaper.

According to the statement, the selection committee has been dissolved and process of appointing new members of the committee will be started soon.

PCB chairman Najam Sethi stated that the decision has been made after a comprehensive internal review. “I am hopeful that we will transform women cricket into a well-knit unit both on field and at the management level.”

He said Sana Mir has great contributions towards Pakistan’s Women cricket and has led the team with great respect and had always used her best abilities to serve the women’s team.”
