One killed, 10 injured as blast jolts Chaman near Pak-Afghan border

CHAMAN: At least one citizen was killed and10 others were injured after a blast jolted Balochistan’s Chaman city near Pak-Afghan border, ARY News reported on Monday.

The explosion which rocked the capital of Qila Abdullah district is said to be a suicide attack which targeted a Frontier Corps vehicle.

According to ARY News correspondent Akhtar Gulfam, an FC vehicle on a regular patrol in the area when the blast occurred. The FC men and their vehicle remained safe but at least 10 passers-by were injured.

Chaman is one of the two main border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Back in May, Pakistan temporarily closed the Chaman border after at least 10 civilians were martyred and 42 were injured in unprovoked firing and shelling from the Afghan side.

Pakistan had closed its borders with Afghanistan at Chaman and Torkham on February 18 by lodging a protest with neighboring country after a series of terrorist attacks in the country, killing over 100 people and the militants taking sanctuaries in Afghanistan were blamed for the attacks.

The border closure resulted in a massive economic loss and affected Afghan trade enormously. After over a month of closure, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had ordered the reopening of the borders as a goodwill gesture.
