Boat around 100 on board capsizes in Ravi

NANKANA SAHIB: A boat carrying over 100 people capsized in Ravi River near Nankana Sahib, ARY News reported on Friday.

The relief operation has been underway to rescue the people drowned in the incident in Syedwala near Nankana Sahib.

The boat was carrying passengers double than its capacity, the eyewitnesses said. Rescue and relief teams rushed to the spot after receiving reports about drowning of a boat in the river.

The boat was travelling from Syedwala to Jindraka village of Okara, local people said.

A survivor of the incident talking to ARY News said that around 50 women were on board the boat. The boat overturned after hitting an object in the river.

The fully loaded boat also carrying cattle, motorbikes and other cargo, the survivor further said.

There was no confirmed report about casualties in the incident as rescue work was underway in the area where people often use boats to ferry from one bank of the river to other.
