Directors Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Hansal Mehta and Anurag Basu, as well as actors Vidya Balan and Ali Zafar attended a screening of the film in Mumbai, Bollywood Now reports.
‘Barfi’ director Anurag Basu was generous in his praise, saying: “I’m speechless. I knew this film was very good. I knew the performances would be good. But I was surprised. It far exceeded what I even thought. This is Shahid’s best performance by far.
“It’s the most important film of this year and earlier years and coming years. If this film becomes a box office hit it will give us confidence that good films can be hits.”
Queen director Vikas Bahl, who is currently working with Shahid on Shandaar, commented: “Everybody’s tremendous and Shahid’s performance and Tabu’s are the highlight. Just fantastic!”
Anurag Kashyap said simply: “The performances? Outstanding. Everyone is superb in this movie.”
Hansal Mehta added: “It’s an absolutely stunning film. Hamlet has got another life with this movie.
Ali Zafar, who recently appeared on the stage of the O2 with Shahid for the Bollywood Showstoppers, said that the film was “very moving, very powerful… the most powerful film recently”.
“The performances were incredible,” he added. “It’s Shahid Kapoor’s best performance. The music, the background score. Everything about this film is remarkable.”
Speaking of Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, Kahaani actress Vidya Balan said: “Let me tell you these two are being very modest. I have seen the film. It is very good. Their performances are sooo good.”
