Alleged Bondi Beach shooter Naveed Akram has reportedly awoken from his almost 48-hour coma, police say, according to Australian media reports.
Naveed Akram, an unemployed bricklayer, and Sajid, a fruiterer, allegedly opened fire into a crowd gathered to celebrate Hanukkah on Bondi Beach in Sydney.
Sajid was shot and killed at the scene by police. Naveed was also shot and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The father and son spent nearly the entire month of November in the Philippines, authorities in Manila confirmed Tuesday, with the father entering as an “Indian national”.
Sajid Akram and his son Naveed, who allegedly killed 15 people and wounded dozens of others at a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, entered the country on November 1 with the southern province of Davao listed as their final destination.
“Sajid Akram, 50, Indian national, and Naveed Akram, 24, Australian national, arrived in the Philippines together last November 1, 2025, from Sydney, Australia,” immigration spokeswoman Dana Sandoval told AFP.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also spoke to the media outside St George hospital in Sydney, where he reached to meet the Bondi Beach hero, who saved multiple lives.
“It was a great honour to meet Ahmed al-Ahmed. He is a true Australian hero,” the PM said.
“He’s very humble. He went through his thought processes as he saw the atrocities unfold. He had gone to Bondi with friends and relatives. He was trying to get a cup of coffee, simple as that, and found himself at a moment where people were being shot in front of him.
