KARACHI: Brazilian coach Jose Antonio Nogueira, who was recently appointed as the national football team head coach for the next three years, arrived in Karachi this morning.

The 52-year old will stay in the city till May 10 to witness the ongoing PFF National Challenge Cup to pick players for the camp in connection with preparations for the forthcoming events of Asian Games and SAFF Championships.

The decision for Nogueira being appointed as Pakistan football team coach was announced by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat last week.

Faisal said the hefty expenditure of the Brazilian coach will be borne by the Bahrain Football Association. Hayat had also announced that the daily allowance of national team players was double from USD 100 to 200.

Jose is an experienced coach, having coached a handful of teams both at home and abroad. He has also worked with Al-Ahli, a professional club from Saudi Arabia. Jose will also work as head of the youth teams. In a video message Jose has said that he would made Pakistan a strong side of Asia.

Jose will replace Mohammed Shamlan of Bahrain who had served Pakistan until April 2015 – a challenging time when the PFF and its rival group emerged thus largely affecting the sport in the country.
