According to police, two suspects chased the car of the Canadian Senator and when it stopped in Sector F6 area they approached her and took away the purse from her possession.
According to robbery victim, the purse contained $4200 and Rs 62,000 along with Canadian Senate ID card, a necklace, a few credit cards and some other documents.
The Pakistani-origin Canadian Senator has lodged a complaint against the robbery bid and police officials said that the case has been launched.
It is pertinent to mention that the robbery bid has raised questions on multi-billion worth ‘Safe-city project’ aimed at making the federal capital ‘free of crime’.
Earlier today, the opposition leader had also lambasted Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for his high claims of launching safe-city project. Shah said, “These are mere claims, snatching incidents in Islamabad are sheer failure of the government to protect even diplomats”, he added.
He alleged that the safe-city project costs Rs seven billion but failed to protect even the foreign embassy staff and diplomats.
