Cases against Imran a 'red herring' attempt, says Naeem

ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Naeem ul Haque on Wednesday said that the ruling party – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) – in a bid to divert attention of the masses and media from Dawn leaks and other issues, has filed cases against PTI chairman Imran Khan by design, ARY News reported.

“The cases have been filed to cause trouble for the PTI chief and divert the attention from myriad of lingering issues including Panamagate and Newsgate scandal”, the PTI spokesperson opined while talking to media persons outside the election commission building.

Haq said that Imran Khan would not give up while alleging the bad governance and corruption against the ruling party.

“Such cases are intentionally being filed to malign Imran Khan’s name, in a bid to compel him for withdrawal of his strong stance against the corrupt ruling party”, he added.

The PTI spokesperson said that another case has been filed today but Khan and his party activists would not be deterred from exposing the corrupt leaders.

Coming down hard on Nawaz Sharif, Haq said that Model Town report was concealed alongside Dawn leaks report recently to safeguard personal interests. “It is apparent the way facts were veiled in Newsgate scandal aimed to protect daughter of the premier by scapegoating others”, Haq remarked.

Moreover, he said that Islamabad High Court (IHC) is hearing a plea regarding a case in ECP which has been adjourned till 13 June.

Previously, the IHC on May 4 had barred the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce a final verdict in the code of conduct violation case against Imran Khan.

It is pertinent to mention here that PTI Chairman Imran Khan facing several cases pertain to party funding, violation of Election Commission’s code of conduct and financial corruption.

Importantly, a reference was filed against the PTI chief by PML-N’s leader Hanif Abbasi.
