LARKANA: At least one person was dead and seventeen others were safely recovered on Friday after a boat carrying pilgrims overturned near the town of Dokri on the River Indus.
The incident took when the boat with forty pilgrims on board mostly hailing from Naushero Feroz and Khairpur districts overturned after returning from the shrine of Pir Muhban Shah in Dokri near Larkana.
Rescue workers face immense difficulty in recovery due to darkness, but many passengers managed to save themselves by swimming as the boat was close to the river bank.
Rescue official said that at least thirty people including women and children fell after the boat overturned but around twenty-two of them were safely rescued. One man identified as Daud Channa drowned in the incident.
Deputy Commissioner Kashif Ali Tipu and other officials reached the site on the incident and oversaw the rescue operation. He said that a Naval rescue team has been dispatched from Sukkur, while current rescue operation is currently underway.
