Chairman of the Karachi Matriculation Board, Ghulam Hussain, announced that the final examinations will now commence on Friday, April 10.

The Chairman stated that this decision was made in the best interest of the students across Karachi to ensure they are better accommodated.

The Controller of Examinations for the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) stated that the board is currently transitioning from a manual system to a digital one.

He explained that due to an increased volume of data, the software has become overloaded and is experiencing temporary technical faults. Consequently, the decision to reschedule the examinations was made as an emergency measure.

The Controller further informed that a revised examination schedule will be issued soon, noting that the exams will still be held at the centers already assigned to the students.

Earlier, the Karachi Matriculation Board announced that schools can obtain their students’ admit cards from the board on Monday, April 6, by presenting an official authority letter.

KARACHI: The price of milk has been increased by Rs 20 per litre, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Karachi has issued an official notification confirming the price hike.

Under the new rate structure, the dairy farmer price has been set at Rs 215 per litre, while the wholesale price is fixed at Rs 225 per litre.

For consumers, the retail price has been set at Rs 240 per litre.

The decision follows a meeting between Commissioner Karachi, Hassan Naqvi, and a delegation from the Karachi Dairy Farmers on Tuesday evening.

Shabbir Dar, a spokesperson for the dairy farmers, stated that the delegation demanded the hike because milk production costs have skyrocketed.

He added that it was no longer sustainable for farmers to sell milk at the previous rates.

KARACHI: Sindh Police have extended the deadline for the crackdown on unapproved vehicle and motorcycle number plates, ARY News reported.

A new commencement date has been set for the operation against illegal or “fancy” plates. According to a Sindh Police spokesperson, the deadline was pushed to March 31 to facilitate the public and provide ample time for compliance.

The formal enforcement campaign will now begin across the city on April 1. During this operation, police will take indiscriminate action against those using private, non-standard, or fancy plates, as well as individuals driving without a valid license.

The extension was granted following orders from Karachi Police Chief, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan.

Authorities have urged citizens to install government-approved number plates on their vehicles and motorcycles before the deadline to avoid legal action.

Earlier, Sindh’s transport department had launched a crackdown against vehicles using bogus fitness certificates.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has directed the cancellation of route permits and registration of cases against the vehicles having fake fitness certificates.

The provincial minister has also directed the PTA secretary to submit a detailed report about the action against vehicles within three days.

Sharjeel Memon said that some transporters were availing fake fitness certificates to avoid physical examination of their vehicles. “Fake fitness certificates are a serious violation of laws and a big threat to public safety”.

“The violators will not be allowed to play with public lives and properties. Bogus fitness certificates are not only a breach of the law but a heinous crime,” the minister said.

He said the government is determined to make the transport system safe, transparent and law abiding. “Action will be taken against all those without discrimination, who will be found to be involved in this illegal act”, he added.

KARACHI: The Karachi administration has intensified its campaign against milk adulteration, ARY News reported.

Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi presided over a meeting where Deputy Commissioners (DCs) provided briefings on the ongoing crackdown.

According to the report, 43 samples from various milk sellers were tested, 17 of which were found to be adulterated.

Specific findings revealed six adulterated samples in Keamari, two in Korangi, one in District South, and eight in District West.

The DCs confirmed that legal action has been initiated across all districts. Total fines amounting to Rs 159,000 were imposed on those selling tainted milk.

During the meeting, Commissioner Naqvi emphasized a zero-tolerance policy, directing officials to take strict legal action against offenders without any concessions.

Earlier, the city administration had decided to launch a crackdown on the sale of adulterated milk in collaboration with the Sindh Food Authority (SFA).

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi with deputy commissioners and SFA officials.

Various officials presented their findings on milk quality complaints, revealing that samples from different districts were found to be adulterated. The meeting emphasised prioritising efforts to curb the sale of milk violating health standards.

It was decided that deputy commissioners of Malir, East, and Keamari districts will launch a campaign with the food authority to check milk quality, establish testing laboratories, and deploy active food safety teams. These teams will test for water adulteration and harmful substances like detergent, urea, and formalin.

The commissioner directed the DCs to form special mobile teams for checks and set up pickets.

The meeting also reviewed complaints about the sale of unhealthy milk in Lea Market, directing the South DC to take priority measures to prevent this. It was decided to establish a laboratory for regular milk quality checks in Lea Market.

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced protest sit-ins at 10 different locations across Karachi for Sunday, after the Sindh government prevented the party’s protest outside the Sindh Assembly through intense tear gas shelling and a baton charge, ARY News reported.

JI Karachi Chief Munem Zafar announced that the sit-ins will be staged at major arteries, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, the National Highway, and Korangi, among other key points.

“The JI’s struggle will not be stopped,” the JI Chief declared, accusing the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) of “fascism.”

Zafar further alleged that police used expired tear gas shells dating back to 2022 against the protesters, adding that the PPP is unwilling to grant the people of Karachi their due rights.

“Those who live off our taxes are the ones throwing shells at us,” Zafar stated. He emphasized that the party’s demands include a powerful local government system and the fundamental right to live safely for the citizens of Karachi.

He noted that while the protest was underway, shops on Burns Road remained open, yet provincial minister Sharjeel Memon had turned the entire city into a “no-go area.”

He stated that a large number of citizens and JI activists were injured during the police shelling and baton charge.

Lambasting the PPP, he asserted that the people of Karachi have been robbed of their basic rights. He maintained that the entire city stands in solidarity with the JI.

“We are raising our voices to resolve the miseries of Karachi,” Zafar added, accusing the PPP of depriving Karachiites of essential services, including water, electricity, and transport.

Zafar concluded by saying that although “oppressive forces” tried to stop the sit-in, the party would return as planned.

KARACHI: Traders have rejected the Sindh government’s “no-parking” pilot project in Saddar. The President of the Saddar Electronic Market has announced that he will write to the relevant institutions to formally voice these concerns, ARY News reported.

According to Rizwan Irfan, President of the Electronic Market, the Deputy Commissioner of Karachi informed him that the Sindh government is introducing a pilot project to establish No-Parking Zones in Saddar and on Zaibunnisa Street. Under this plan, no cars or motorcycles would be allowed to park in these areas, though “pick-and-drop” services would be permitted.

Irfan further noted a proposal to fine shopkeepers Rs 50,000 if any makeshift stalls are found in front of their shops. He rejected the suggestion to designate Abdullah Haroon Road as a no-parking area in the South Zone, stating that such a decision is unacceptable without first making alternative parking arrangements.

He expressed fears that the measure would stifle business, arguing that requiring customers to park half a kilometer away would decrease footfall.

Regarding the proposed fines, Irfan objected, stating that shopkeepers are not responsible for makeshift stalls and that the relevant authorities should take direct action against the encroachers instead.

As a solution, he suggested the establishment of an underground parking facility beneath Jehangir Park.

Traders have urged the Sindh government and the Mayor of Karachi to take notice of the matter, warning that no decision will be accepted without prior consultation.

KARACHI: A high-level committee has been established to review the E-Challan system in Karachi, ARY News reported.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has been appointed as the chairman of the committee

The body also includes opposition leaders from the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), including Ali Khurshidi and other members of the provincial assembly.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Javed Alam Odho and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Pir Muhammad Shah have been appointed as secretaries of the committee.

Furthermore, the secretaries of the Home and Law Departments will also serve as members.

The committee was formed to conduct a comprehensive review of the E-Challan system. It will deliberate on traffic fine policies and prepare recommendations to make the system more efficient and user-friendly.

Additionally, the committee will conduct a complete analysis of the E-Challan system that was introduced earlier in 2025.

Ealier, Karachi police have collected Rs25 million in fines through e-challan system launched in the city.

This was revealed in a meeting chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, to review the performance and potential expansion of the cashless e-ticketing system.

The meeting included a detailed briefing from the DIG Traffic.

During the meeting, it was observed that since the implementation of e-challans in Karachi, over 23,000 citizens have visited facilitation centers.

The briefing revealed that fewer than 200 citizens have challenged their e-challans, while 90% of the issued e-challans have been waived. Overall, fines totaling PKR 25 million have been collected from approximately 4,000 challans.

The next phase will focus on curbing parking violations through ground and aerial surveillance. Cameras, scanners, and drones installed on traffic police vehicles will issue e-tickets to vehicles parked in no-parking zones. Divisional DIGs have submitted reports on the cameras installed in their respective districts.

IG Sindh highlighted that the cashless e-challan system has been widely welcomed by the public, has improved adherence to traffic laws, and significantly reduced complaints regarding unnecessary travel delays.

The IG asserted that the benefits of this modern technology will now be extended to other cities in the province. Under the new Motor Vehicle Act, facilitation centers will be established across all districts to support this initiative.
