The CEC in a meeting with representatives of political parties called the demand of posting Returning Officers from judiciary as impractical.

Justice Sardar Raza asked political parties to give suggestions for ensuring free and fair local bodies elections instead of demanding resignations of the members of the election commission.

The CEC informed representatives of political parties that the judiciary has expressed its inability to provide judicial officials for election duties. The administration officials will perform the duty of returning officers, he said.

He assured the political parties that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will take all possible measures to hold the upcoming local government elections in a free and fair manner according to the Constitution.

He said that the ECP is trying to create an effective code of conduct for political parties.

The meeting at the ECP head office in Islamabad, was attended by representatives of all the parliamentary political parties.

The commissioner said that the political parties should join the efforts of the ECP to improve voter turnout during the upcoming LG polls in Punjab and Sindh.
