Centre decides to provide additional electricity to Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government here on Monday decided to provide additional electricity to Balochistan to help curb power crises in the province, ARY News reported.

This was decided in a high-level meeting held today at the Prime Minister Office in Islamabad. According to the details, the government decided to supply additional power for three hours at each electricity feeder in the province.

The addition electricity would be provided for a short span of three months to provide instant relief to the people in Balochistan.

The meeting also agreed to convert 29,500 tubewells on solar energy to lessen overcome the power crises. Comprehensive measures would be taken within three months to end the power shortage in the province.

On the occasion, Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan announced to visit Balochistan next month along with his team to personally monitor the measures against power shortage in the province.

Earlier on March 8, holding Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government responsible for the crisis in the power sector, Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub had said wrong policies of the past government had created problems in the sector.

Expressing his views on the floor of the senate, he had said circular debt was at the level of Rs 884 billion in 2013, when the PML-N came in the power.

“The circular debt was recorded at Rs 1,190 billion in the month of May 2018, due to wrong planning and ill decisions of the PML-N government”, the minister had said.
