Chairman FBR rules out any extension in tax amnesty scheme deadline

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi on Tuesday ruled out any possibility of extension in tax amnesty scheme deadline, ARY News reported.

“The deadline to end on June 30”, he said while briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance.

Ruling out the impression of acquiring money through the scheme, Zaidi said the scheme was introduced with an aim to expand net and bring the benami account holders into the tax net in the country.

He thanked banks for providing details of the benami account holders.

President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on May 15, had signed the 2019 ordinance of Tax Amnesty Scheme related to disclosing assets, following the approval from the federal cabinet.

Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan had also urged countrymen to benefit from the tax amnesty scheme introduced by his government until June 30.

“Disclose your concealed assets, if you have till June 30, else you will not get another chance”, the premier had said in his address to the nation.

The premier had said, we collect about four thousand billion rupees in taxes, of which half of the amount goes to the debt servicing. The premier had said Pakistan cannot survive on the rest of the money.
