CJP censures DIG for seeking 'undue favour' through his son-in-law

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday came down hard on Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar for approaching his son-in-law to seek undue favour in a case. 

The chief justice was hearing a matter pertaining to the custody of the police officer’s children at the apex court’s Lahore registry.

The CJP expressed extreme displeasure at the DIG for asking his son-in-law Khalid Rehman to approach him for undue favour in the matter.

He summoned Rehman to explain his position.

“How dare you approach me for favour through my son-in-law?” the chief justice asked the DIG.  “I am on the path of Jihad while you tried to approach me for favour,” he continued.

The police officer offered an unconditional apology, to which Justice Nisar asked him to disclose the name of the person who advised him to gain a favour in the case.

Later, the chief justice’s son-in-law appeared before the court.

He told the top judge that the DIG asked him for a favour and tendered an unconditional apology.

The CJP, however, made it clear to Rehman that he was his son at home but he was standing before the chief justice.
