ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday questioned the fairness of a probe into recovery of liquor from a hospital room where former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon was being treated, saying the liquor samples were swapped.

The chief justice, while hearing a case regarding the shortage of hospitals in Islamabad, said he didn’t know how the samples of liquor were changed and how they were transported to a laboratory for examination.

He explained if he had wanted to arrest the men who were found in possession of liquor, he would have done so on the spot and have had the medical samples collected and tested.

Justice Nisar said: “The samples of liquor were changed in the hospital room.”

Sharjeel cleared as no trace of alcohol found in bottles, blood samples

He pointed out, “I did not see any bottle of honey during my visit, neither did Sharjeel Memon deny the existence of alcohol in those bottles, he only clarified that the bottles do not belong to him.”

The CJP wondered how can the samples be changed during tests and how did the report was prepared?

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on September 1 paid a surprise visit to Ziauddin Hospital where he found three bottles of liquor in the room of the incarcerated PPP leader.
