PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday expressed satisfaction over the performance of Inspector General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police with regard to improvement in security situation in the province.
Headed by the chief justice, a bench of the apex court, resumed today hearing of a number of cases of public interest at the Peshawar registry.
Justice Nisar thanked the IG police, who appeared in a case pertaining to provision of security protocol to influential persons, saying he is doing a good job.
Speaking to the media after emerging from the courtroom, the provincial police chief said the CJP praised his force.
He said the police are already working on a plan to withdraw unnecessary security provided to influential people. The security protocol has been withdrawn from 1,769 people in the province, he added.
Water quality
During hearing of a case pertaining to supply of potable water in the province, the apex court ordered the authorities concerned to collect water samples from different locations and get them tested from a Punjab lab to check their quality.
“You don’t have a lab or equipment to test water quality. How do you test the quality of water then,” Justice Nisar asked.
Action against quacks
In another case, he directed the top health officials to take effective action against quacks in the province.
To a query, Chairman Healthcare Commission informed the judges that there around 15, 000 quacks across the province. Action had been taken against them as 122 such clinics have been sealed, he added.
Upon this, the chief justice remarked they have been ruining the lives of people.
