Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week scraped a planned visit to the upcoming South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) in Pakistan.

“Increasing cross-border terrorist attacks in the region and growing interference in the internal affairs of Member States by one country have created an environment that is not conducive to the successful holding of the 19th SAARC Summit,” India’s foreign ministry claimed in its statement.

Bangladesh, Afghanistan – both close allies of India – and Bhutan also boycotted the regional summit in Pakistan according to an official with the Nepali government, a current chair of Saarc.
