ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, while summoning details of small dams constructed throughout the country, announced that he will give good news on December 25 related to water issues that Karachi is facing.
The chief justice, who headed a bench of the apex court, directed the Attorney General of Pakistan to provide these details within a week.
He said work on a treatment plant in Karachi is ongoing at fast pace.
Responding to his detractors, CJP Nisar said it is not the court’s duty to build dams, but it intervened owing to the gravity of the situation.
He said he had sought relevant experts’ opinion three months before passing an order for the construction of water reservoirs in the country.
The top court sought a report from the Punjab government and Bahria Town on progress so far made with regard to the building of Daducha dam. He instructed the government and real estate firm to hold a meeting in this regard and apprise the court of its outcome on next hearing.
He said a citizen has also composed an anthem with regard to dams, which will be played in all advertisements aimed at raising funds for the reservoirs.
