CM announces judicial probe into Mardan student lynching incident

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that a judicial committee would be constituted to investigate lynching of a student in Mardan’s Abdul Wali Khan University.

Responding to a point of order of Parliamentary Leader of Awami National Party Sardar Hussain Babak during a session of the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the chief minister said those responsible for the violence and killing a student, Mashal Khan, will be brought to justice.

Pervez Khattak said no one would be allowed to take law in his hand.

“The perpetrators will be awarded with an exemplary punishment to avoid repeat of any such incident in future”, he said.

Moreover, the police have arrested over 60 people in connection of the incident. An FIR has been lodged in which four university employees along with district councillor Mardan have been nominated.

The father of the deceased apprised media that Mashal Khan’s prime focus was on education and he had devotion for nature. He urged authorities to bring the culprits behind the incident to justice.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mashal Khan, who was a journalism student was killed by a vigilante mob within premises of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan on allegations of blasphemy early this week.
