CM Punjab announces compensation, pays tribute to slain policemen

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved financial compensation for the policeman martyred in the blast at Ferezorepur Road in Lahore.

The chief minister on Tuesday visited hospitals to inquire about the health of the injured in the blast, and announced that they should be provided excellent healthcare facilities.

The bereaved families of the slain policemen will received compensation as per the revised package announced by the Central Police Office on April 10 under the amendments in Rule 12 of the Police (Award of Compensation) Rules 1989.

As per the revised compensation package, police officials/officers killed during active armed police operations against terrorists, targeting by terrorists due to previous operations or investigations against terrorists either during service and after retirement, in terrorist attack or bomb blasts will be awarded a lump sum payment of Rs 10 million.

In special circumstances, the widow or legal heir of the martyred policeman above the rank of an SP, may be recruited to the scale of BS-17-18 in any department subject to qualification and age relaxation will also be provided on a case-by-case basis.

The children of the martyred policeman will also be provided free education from primary to post-graduate level and all expenses will be borne by the Punjab government on a yearly basis.

The martyred policeman shall also be conferred gallantry awards in different categories as per the valour displayed, from Order of Shujaat, Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal, and President Police Medial, as appropriate.

At least 28 people were killed and over 50 others wounded when a suicide bomber hit policemen and people gathered during an anti-encroachment operation in the Kot Lakhpat Fruit Market late Monday afternoon.
