LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has taken notice after a photo of jailed PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi meeting his party’s supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif in Adiala jail superintendent’s room went viral on social media, ARY News reported.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader,  who is serving life sentence in ephedrine quota case, can be seen meeting Mian Nawaz Sharif in jail superintendent’s room after Islamabad High Court, in its Wednesday judgement, suspended jail sentence awarded to former PM, his daughter and son-in-law.

Speaking exclusively to ARY News, Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan said that the meeting was in violation of all rules and CM Punjab has taken notice of the incident and an inquiry committee has been formed to probe the incident.

“Jail superintendent cannot call a prisoner whose sentence has just been suspended and then a person (Hanif Abbasi) who is still serving life sentence can of course not meet the other (Nawaz Sharif),” said Chohan.

He added that he too telephoned the jail superintendent and inquired him about the incident.

PML-N supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retired) Safdar were released from Adiala prison in pursuance of an Islamabad High Court order here on Wednesday.

An IHC division bench, while hearing the appeals by the Sharifs and Capt Safdar against the July 6 accountability court verdict. The judges accepted the convicts’ petitions against the Avenfield verdict, ruling that the sentences would remain suspended until the final judgement on their appeals.

An accountability court on July 6, had handed Nawaz Sharif 10 years as jail time for owning assets beyond income and 1 year for not cooperating with NAB in the Avenfield properties corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

His daughter Maryam Nawaz was given 7 years for abetment, and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar was given 1 year for non-cooperation with the anti-graft authority.
