CM Sindh approves Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge on River Indus

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday finally approved the final alignment of a bridge to be constructed on River Indus between district headquarters Ghotki and Kandhkot.

The chief minister presiding over a meeting said that there is proposal to construct a bridge on River Indus at Ghouspur-Ghotki near Gamro village but some people are suggesting changing its alignment to connect the district headquarters

The participants of the meeting particularly Minister Planning and Development Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari, who both belong to Kandhkot district said that the bridge will connect the Ghotki and Kandhkot district headquarter, and would be between Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

After briefing by the Irrigation department special secretary Ahmed Junaid, the chief minister approved the alignment of Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge and directed public private partnership unit to seek investor’s solicitation.

The bridge would be constructed on PPP mode, and a proposal would be floated within a week so that the foundation stone could be laid by the end of next month. “This is one of the most important project for smooth flow of vehicular traffic to Punjab, Balochistan,” said CM Sindh.

It may be noted that the bridge would be two-kilometer long and the longest bridge on River Indus. A bypass of 3.5 km long would also be constructed for the traffic coming from Ghotki to Thul, Jacobabad and Balochistan.

CM Sindh congratulated people of Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab, particularly Kandhkot and Ghotki for the project and said it would be a turning point in development of the economy of the province.

The bridge would be a four-lane project and would be completed within three years and operational period would be for twenty-five years.
