KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday inspected several development project on a unexpected visit of the city including the the renovation work at the Jehangir Park located in Saddar.
The once iconic park had fallen into a state of neglect and disrepair over the years. The chief minister had vowed to restore the park to its former glory after taking office saying that it was a meaningful part of his childhood.
“This park is my gift to the people of this city and to all the people who visit Saddar, ” he said adding that he has fulfilled his promise by restoring the park to its former glory.
The park spread over five hundred acres has been renovated at the cost of 220 million rupees. This includes two Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, one which has the capacity to provide fifty thousand gallons of drinking water daily and another which will supply water to the park.
This includes the construction of compound wall, fountains, benches, wood work, electrical work, drainage system, wash rooms and other items which have been completed within one year.
CM Sindh visited the Bohri Bazaar in Saddar and expressed displeasure over the slow pace of development work in the streets and alleys of the market. He directed Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro to expedite the projects at their earliest.
The chief minister interacted with traders and shop owners in Saddar who requested him to develop a pavement in the area as part of the development projects. They also reminisced over the glorious past and expressed nostalgia when a tram service operated in the area.
CM Sindh said that a new sewerage line has been laid down after several years in many places such as Daudpota Road at the cost of Rs132 million which also includes road, sewerage, water supply, storm water drain and electrical work.
He also inspected the renovation of historic buildings located on Karam Ali Talpur Road.Local government minister briefed CM Sindh over the renovation. Chairman Planning and Development Muhammad Waseem informed that a World Bank funded project was renovating and rehabilitating old historic buildings in the city.
“These building are most beautiful and are our heritage, so I am keen to restore them,” he said
CM Sindh also visited Mansfied Street and discussed its makeover and development with the residents of the area. A woman resident apprised the chief minister over the problems in the city. He directed Karachi Commissioner to solve the problems faced by the residents of Mansfied Street.
