COAS Raheel Sharif reaches Kabul to discuss peace dialogue

Afghanistan sees Pakistan’s support as vital to resuming a stalled peace dialogue with the Taliban and recently both countries have expressed resolve to work together in this regard.

“COAS takes off for Kabul with all the sincerity and optimism for better border management and peace process in Afghanistan,” said ISPR spokesperson Lt Gen Asim Bajwa on Twitter.

General Raheel Sharif was received at Kabul airport by the Afghan Chief of General Staff and presented guard of honor on arrival at the Presidential Palace, he later said in another tweet.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani travelled to Pakistan this month to open a conference that shored up international support for Taliban talks.

At the Islamabad conference, Ghani and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed commitment to the peace process, with the United States and China also offering support.
