GLASGOW: The medals unveiling ceremony of the Commonwealth Games carried in Glasgow on Monday.
The gold, silver and bronze prizes, which are the focus of the training and commitment of 4,500 athletes across the Commonwealth, were revealed to the public for the first time to mark a century of days until the Games kick off.
They have been designed by internationally renowned jeweller and maker Jonathan Boyd, who worked with a team of 11 specialist jeweller-makers at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art to hand make each one.
As the countdown to the Commonwealth Games drops to double digits, the involvement of a certain iconic Jamaican sprinter remains up in the air.
But Scottish legend Allan Wells believes Usain Bolt will do all that he can to be in the starting blocks at Hampden Park in three months’ time.
Wells has played a key role in promoting the Glasgow Games since they were announced seven years ago and last year he kicked off the baton relay after meeting the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
He was present last night at the unveiling of the Glasgow medals, an event hosted by former Commonwealth 400m champion Iwan Thomas.
Pakistan’s performance at Commonwealth Games
Pakistan has competed in 11 of the 19 previous Commonwealth Games, from 1954 having 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth, the most successful, where Pakistan was fourth in the overall rankings and won 8 Gold Medals.
Pakistan is at fourteenth position in the All-time tally of medals, with an overall total of 65 medals.
Wrestling is the most successful event for Pakistan, where it has won 37 medals, 20 of which have been Gold.
