Constable sent to physical remand in minor girl’s murder case

KARACHI: A court in Karachi on Thursday sent the accused police constable, in a case pertaining to the death of a seven-year-old girl in Saeedabad area, to physical remand until October 8, ARY News reported.

Police produced Waseem Khan before the court for the hearing in this regard and apprised that he was cleaning his official weapon when the bullet accidently went off and hit Aqsa in the back, resulting in her death.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tariq Nawaz, West Zone, on Wednesday said police arrested the policeman Waseem Khan from Saeedabad.

The constable told police that he accidentally fired the gun while cleaning it at his Saeedabad residence. The bullet critically injured Aqsa at the school opposite to his house. The girl later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

Investigation Officer had initially revealed that the bullet hit Aqsa from a distance of between 150 and 200 yards. The recovered bullet was sent to forensic lab for investigation.

It is pertinent to note here that earlier in August, a 10 year-old girl named Amal Umer too was killed by policemen in DHA area of the city.

Amal Umar, who was travelling with her parents in their car, died after she was hit by a bullet fired by a policeman in Defence Housing Authority on the night of Aug 13 during an alleged shootout with suspected street criminals.
