Imran Khan directs provinces to monitor Corona Relief Tiger Force activities


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday directed the chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces to monitor the activities of the Coronavirus Relief Tiger Force at provincial level, ARY NEWS reported.

A meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) core committee under the chair of Imran Khan was held at Prime Minister House in Islamabad to discuss a strategy to control the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, CM KP Mahmood Khan, federal ministers, lawmakers and members of the party.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Usman Dar briefed the participants on the composition and working of the tiger relief force.

He said that the operational matters of the tiger force would be monitored by provinces on their own. “Chief secretaries, deputy commissioners and lawmakers in the province will directly assist the activities of the force,” the special assistant said adding that the federal government would extend its complete cooperation towards the provinces in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said that currently, their prime focus was on tackling the spread of coronavirus in the country. “We have to take timely and right decisions keeping in view the current economic situation,” he said.

He directed the lawmakers to take care of the needs of public in their respective constituencies.

According to sources, the meeting was briefed on the current economic situation of the country by federal government’s economic team.

“They mulled over the government’s decisions taken to cope up with the current situation in the aftermath of coronavirus outbreak and reviewed progress on their implementation,” they said.

The committee also held a debate on starting work at the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

The meeting of the ruling party also discussed the ways to move forward to achieve goals set by the government during the time of the pandemic.
