CPEC moving ahead at fast pace, says PM

DAVOS: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are being completed at a faster speed is being witnessed as economic game changer in the region.

Speaking to media in Davos, the PM said that economic indicators of the country are improving and international financial institutions and rating agencies are acknowledging Pakistan’s economic growth.

PM Sharif said that unemployment has reduced due to economic stability and growth in the country and job opportunities are being generated.

“Pakistan is economically moving forward and development projects are being completed equally in every part of the country to bring prosperity for all people,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif said that road network is being completed in Pakistan, which has narrowed the distance and now a person can have breakfast in Gwadar and lunch in Quetta.

The premier arrived in Zurich on Tuesday to attend the World Economic Forum meeting in the resort town of Davos-Klosters where he was received by Ambassador Tehmina Janjua.

He is also expected to meet the new Secretary General United Nations Antonio Guterres and Swiss President Doris Leuthard in Davos.  He will also hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Norway and Queen Maxima of Netherlands.

Later he will also address top business leaders on “Investing in Pakistan: The New Reality” and invite them to invest in Pakistan to further their economic and business interests.

He will also meet corporate leaders including Group CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, Global Chairman CEO Procter & Gamble, Group CEO of Vimpel, Netherlands and Vice Chairman, Lazard.

The World Economic Forum is attended by more than 3200 participants, including heads of states, top business leaders, public figures and leaders from the media and academic fields. The theme for the 2017 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting is “Responsive and Responsible Leadership”.
