At least five wounded in grenade blast in Karachi

KARACHI: At least five persons have sustained injuries in a grenade blast carried out by unidentified assailants in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area of Karachi, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Police officials and rescue teams have rushed at the scene and shifted the wounded persons to the hospital.

According to initial reports, unidentified men hurled a grenade on the Jashan-e-Azadi stalls in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area. The officials of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) have been summoned on the incident’s site to ascertain the genre of the explosion.

According to BDS, the terrorists have used Russian-made RGD-1 grenade in the attack. The probe report stated that the BDS officials found the lever, safety pin and particles of the grenade from the scene which were sent to the laboratory for further investigation.

The investigators found similarities in the recent grenade attack with the explosion took place in Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) rally in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, leaving one dead and more than 30 wounded.

Earlier on August 5, at least 39 people had been injured in a grenade blast near Bait-ul-Mukarrum Masjid located in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area when the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) activists gathered in a Kashmir rally.

According to the senior superintendent police (SSP), some unidentified motorcyclists had hurled a grenade on the participants of JI’s Kashmir rally.

Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in-charge Raja Umar Khattab had expressed suspicions that the Indian prime intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), was involved in the attack on JI’s Kashmir rally. He had claimed that the enemies of peace were behind the attack who had previously targeted law enforcement agencies.
