SRINAGAR: A complete shutter down strike is being observed in parts of Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK) on the second martyrdom anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
According to an Indian police official, restrictions have been imposed in Tral township, in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and in the Nowhatta and Maisuma police station areas of Srinagar.
“Security forces have been deployed in strength at sensitive places across the occupied valley,” he added.
Ahead of Wani’s death anniversary, on Friday, Indian forces cracked down on separatist leaders. Yasin Malik was detained and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq put under house arrest while Syed Ali Shah Geelani remains under house detention.
While on Saturday, three Kashmiris were shot dead by Indian troops and other protesters were attacked with tear gas in IoK.
On July 8, 2016, Wani a freedom fighter from Tral, was martyred by Indian forces.
The martyrdom of 22-year-old sparked the movement of freedom for Kashmiris. Following Wani’s death, nearly 100 civilians were killed in mass protests against Indian atrocities and severl others were blinded by the pellet guns used by Indian forces in the region.
