Death toll from Indian shelling on Working Boundary soars to six

RAWALPINDI: The death toll from cross-border Indian shelling by the country’s Border Security Force on villages along Working Boundary rose to six, as two more people succumbed to their injuries.

“Indian brutality on World Peace Day (Sept 21) martyred six innocent Pakistanis, injured 26 along working boundary in Chappar/Harpal/Charwa Sector, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, the director general of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said in a statement on Friday.

At least four members of a family were killed and over a dozen were injured when Indian forces resorted to shelling from across the working boundary on Thursday.

The victims included Maryam Bibi, Maryam Ashfaq, Maqsud, and Ashraf, according to local officials.

Imran, Maryam Bibi, Nafees Bibi, Khursheed Bibi, Umer Afzal, Hafeezan Bibi, Samreen Bibi, her son Salman, Muhammad Ashraf, Sughra Bibi, Muhammad Majeed and Muhammad Jabbar were among those injured in Kundan Pur, Bajra Garhi and Beeni Sulheriyaan villages in Sharwah, Suchteetgarh and Harpal sectors.

The skirmishes and heavy exchanges of fire between the two rival armies have become a norm despite a truce agreement signed in November 2003 with Indian troops resorting to regular firing and shelling without any provocation targeting civilian population, particularly after the attack on Indian army base in Uri by suspected militants.
