KARACHI: Karachi Cantonment Board on Wednesday has started demolition of advertisement walls around its office and nearby areas, ARY News reported.

Four walls plastered with advertisements on Shara e Faisal near FTC building have been demolished so far.

The Supreme Court had ordered four days earlier, the demolition of walls that bore advertisements around the city and also placed a ban on any construction of walls for the purpose of advertising.

However, Karachi Municipal Corporation has yet to start the demolition work in compliance to the apex court orders.

A Supreme Court bench at the Karachi Registry, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, on June 9th heard a plea regarding the advertisement walls in the metropolis .

The bench imposed a ban on the construction of walls for advertising purpose.

The petitioner seeking a ban on advertisement walls stated that a number of these walls have been put up around the city, marring the beauty of the metropolis.

The top judge asked as to who was behind the construction of these walls.

The CEO of Karachi Cantonment Board informed the judges that the cantonment has served notices on the advertisement companies.

To which, the chief justice asked the CEO to take appropriate action against them and that the issuance of notices won’t be useful.

The bench directed that all walls erected for the purpose of advertisement be razed in the city and summoned a compliance report in this regard within ten days.
