Veteran Bollywood actor Geeta Kapoor, who rose to fame with her role in Pakeezah film, breathed her last on Saturday morning at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 57.

She was abandoned by her son and daughter last year and she spent her last days at an old age home. Film personalities Ashoke Pandit and Ramesh Taurani had been paying for her care and medical bills. The actress has worked in more than 100 films including classics such as ‘Pakeezah’ and ‘Razia Sultan’.

“Heartbreaking! ‘Pakeezah’ actress Geeta Kapoor passes away after waiting to see her children one last time,” tweeted her family friend Pandit.

Kapoor was living at Jeevan Asha old age home run by the Society of Helpers of Mary in Mumbai.

She had once complained of ill-treatment meted out by her son, including not giving her food regularly.

In her last days, she hankered very much to see her children, but they never showed up and she grew weaker and weaker every day until she passed away on Saturday, said Pandit.

The body will be kept at the Cooper Hospital morgue ahead of the funeral on Monday. It is not confirmed yet if her children would come to perform the final rites or not.

“Her body will be kept at Cooper Hospital, Vile Parle for two days hoping her children to come and at least do the last rites. Otherwise, we will do our best to bid her a dignified goodbye,” Pandit tweeted.

Kapoor’s son, Raja, is a choreographer and her daughter, Pooja, is an air hostess.
